Position in Brief

In the Geospatial Data Scientist role, you will use satellite data to solve real-world problems, such as identifying areas of deforestation or mapping urbanization. You will also work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate new data sources, design and develop analytical models, and analyze and interpret data for a wide range of audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze satellite imagery and other relevant datasets to monitor agricultural conditions, identify patterns, and provide actionable insights for effective agricultural planning
  • Develop and refine predictive models using machine learning and statistical techniques to forecast crop yields, detect pests, and identify areas at risk of drought or flood
  • Utilize advanced image processing techniques to enhance the quality and interpretability of satellite images, focusing on vegetation health, water usage, and soil conditions
  • Work closely with agronomists and agricultural experts to translate complex data insights into practical agricultural practices and recommendations
  • Develop and maintain software tools that automate the collection, processing, and analysis of satellite and sensor data for agricultural applications
  • Create reports and visualizations that clearly communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, project managers, and business analysts, to integrate data science solutions into the broader agricultural planning and management systems
  • Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and relevance of data used in analyses and models


  • Key Requirement

    • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Geography, Geomatics, or a related field
    • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), satellite data analysis, or remote sensing techniques
    • Strong programming skills in Python
    • Experience in distributed data processing frameworks such as Spark and cloud computing such as AWS and Google Cloud
    • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and data structures
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • It’s a plus, if you have

    • Experience with natural resource management, forestry, urban planning, or related fields is a plus
